The Japanese word origami itself is a compound of two smaller Japanese words: "ori", meaning to fold, and "kami", meaning paper.

Only one sheet of paper is used in making the models, without scissors or glue, and the result after folding gives the impression of a highly visible mossaic if the finished model is displayed in front of a light source or on the window.
